- The sign-up system at the Nap Nook™ is in place so that we can maximize the number of students who can benefit from the center. By having students sign-in for a 40 minute nap, it allows for other students to see when the next bean bag will become available.
Why can I only nap for 40 minutes?
- Forty minute napping slots were chosen for the Nap Nook™ because our goal is to promote healthy napping, which consists of naps that are shorter than 30 minutes. By allowing a 40 minute napping slot, we hope to provide students enough time to get situated and fall asleep, while avoiding the sleep inertia that accompanies longer naps.
Will a Nap Nook™ open on the Quad side of campus?
- We can’t make any promises, but with your help and support we hope to open another Nap Nook™ near the Quad. By participating in Sleep & Actigraphy Lab research, as well as visiting the center and spreading the word, we hope that the center will be successful enough to result in the creation of a secondary Nap Nook™.
Do I have to reserve my bean bag in advance?
- Nope! You can walk-in and sign-up right at the Nap Nook™. Reserving a bean bag online is just a convenient option for those who want to plan ahead.

- Yes! Some studies have shown that a ten minute nap can boost attention for a short period of time. Deep sleep is associated with our Stage 3 and Stage 4 sleep, known as slow wave sleep (SWS). Naps that engage slow wave sleep often result in the napper feeling groggy and tired when they wake up due to sleep inertia.
